Taita Taveta Launches New Era in Solid Waste Management with MRF and Youth-Led Collection Initiative.
The GoBlue solid waste project in Taita Taveta recently achieved a significant milestone. Led by Waziri Arch. Tairo, the final inspection of the completed Material Recovery Facility (MRF) was successfully conducted, and the facility was handed over to the user department of Environment. The MRF is set to start receiving materials in the coming days.
In addition, the pilot door-to-door collection by the youth in Voi and Taveta was officially flagged off by Waziri Grantone Mwandawiro at their offices in Voi. This initiative marks the commencement of household collection of recyclables, which will be transferred to the MRF.
The combined opening of the MRF for startup operations and the door-to-door collection signifies the beginning of a new era in solid waste management in Taita Taveta. The occasion was witnessed by George Wasonga, the CEO of CSUDP, and representatives of the contractor, EcoBuild Africa Architects.
This development highlights the community’s commitment to sustainable waste management and the active involvement of local youth in environmental conservation efforts.
