2nd UN-Habitat Assembly : How to Build a Sustainable Urban Future with Stakeholder Partnerships: A Public Dialogue

CSUDP was appointed as the convener for the National Habitat Committee (NHC) sub-committee on the Stakeholders Dialogue that is planned as one of the events preceding the 2nd UN-Habitat Assembly (UNHA II). UNHA II takes place at the UN-Habitat Headquarters from 5-9 June 2023.

The first session of the UN-Habitat Assembly took place from 27 – 31 May 2019, in Nairobi. During this first session, the National Habitat Committee (NHC), Kenya in collaboration with CSUDP and other partners[1] convened the first Public Dialogue at the University of Nairobi on 24 May 2019 in the run-up to the Assembly. In line with the resolution of the first Public dialogue, and in furtherance of the Ministerial Declaration of the 1st UNHA, a second Stakeholders Dialogue has been planned to precede the 2nd UNHA. This dialogue acknowledges the ministerial declaration No. 9(i), which commits to the engagement of citizens, communities and civil society, the private sector, institutions of higher learning and professional institutes in accelerating implementation of the New Urban Agenda. It convenes within the Kenyan framework of implementation of the New Urban Agenda, having been amongst the first countries to domesticate NUA. The convening of the 2nd Stakeholders dialogue is further guided by the Stakeholders Engagement Policy that has been developed by UN-Habitat and will be part of the Assembly consideration for adoption.

University of Nairobi will host the 2nd Public Dialogue to be held at the Chandaria Auditorium on 22 May 2023. The dialogue adopts the theme of the 2nd UNHA; “A sustainable urban future through inclusive and effective multilateralism: achieving the Sustainable Development Goals in times of global crises”. Central to this theme is the accelerated implementation of the New Urban Agenda (NUA). The specific theme assigned for the 2nd Public Dialogue is; “A sustainable urban future through inclusive and effective stakeholder partnership: achieving the Sustainable Development Goals in times of global crises”.
