Our History

Our Vision

To enhance human and ecological wellness by inspiring social and institutional excellence.

An inclusive, resilient and dignified society.

CSUDP is a successor organization of the Civil Society Urban Development Program that was established in 2009. The latter has a purpose of achieving a strengthened and coordinated CSO partnership for policy advocacy and improved service delivery in selected urban areas.

CSUDP exists to facilitate and coordinate transformative, equitable and sustainable development for the benefit of the disadvantaged majority. The ultimate ambition of CSUDP is to achieve inclusive governance and improved service delivery, within the context of devolved governance in Kenya. This is pursued through application of democratic, human rights and partnership approaches.

With the support of several benefactors, CSUDP has to date championed innovative initiatives that positively shaped urban governance in various counties. These included supporting establishment of governance regimes that promote the rights of the urban poor. These were realized through strategic collaborations with the national and county governments, CSOs and professional bodies.

Our Mission

To Our work is founded on the belief that everyone deserves a dignified life within ecological limits. To enable this, we invest in addressing the structural barriers to human development and inclusion, often in the areas of formal regulations, institutions, social norms and individual/collective capacity constraints. We therefore invest in strengthening civic, regulatory and institutional competencies; promoting appropriate ecological values and balanced interactions between humans and nature; and providing platforms for collaboration among complementary actors. We believe that by so doing, we can realize accelerated, scaled and sustained system level change.
